After Christmas

This blog is getting a little hard to reach. Why? These guys are just to busy being computer nerds and do not understand artistry. Damn them all are there high status looking down on us.

Christmas day 2011. A beautiful warm day for the north. Plus 4 for a daytime high
Will go for a walk over to seven eleven to get some candy for Christmas. I prepared a nice meal last night, consumed in dim light conditions. Roasted ham, farmer sausage, perogies and peas. Not a bad meal for a person. Apple pie and Christmas cake for desert. They were baught at safeway, only a block away.

In Red Deer

At dusk last night three white tail deer were outside the apartment building. I was only a few feet away as I walked the back route into the building. We have a creek, now used as a drainage ditch for the city of Red Deer immediately north of the apartment. One of the deer paws the snow to eat the tender shoots of grass that lay beneath the blanket awaiting the warm of the spring melt. The deer were at peace with me,I was at peace with the deer. jay

Kearl Laek

Had the usual 1 hour bus ride in Monday at about 6pm. The darkness shrouded the trees, the cold chased all wild life to refuge and the motor broke the silence of the true north lands, It is getting cold up here.

Kearl Lake

The bus trip of about seventy kilometres this past late fall had a spectacular view of bears. We saw a sow with two big cubs, a sow with three very small cubs and probably two single large boars. The small cubs will probably not make the winter for they are just not big enough. The high density of bears was due to the northern wild fires that burned all summer long in the Athabasca sand hills.

Kearl Lake

It is a twenty two kilometre bus ride to work. This road is almost magical. Tiger lillies, about a thousand strong grew along this route. They are an endangered plant species and are the emblem on the Saskatchewan flag. Road repairs and widening left only about fifty remaining. An owl couple had their nest along the route. Sand hill cranes browsed along the road. Deer, moose and bears all were seen routinely. A magical part of our world in the middle of an oil sands project.

Feb 14, 2011

Happy Valentine's day everyone. We have beautiful weather in Red Deer today. I can just feel the bird's sigh of relief to be out of the minus 30 c weather. White tail deer routinely walk past my apartment building. It is extremely nice to be so close to nature. I will go for my walk this afternoon. Bye for noon. Jay

Feb 2, 2011

Hello World;
It is a wonderful sunny day with a high of plus 3 C or 38F. Yesterday morning the temperature with windchill was a bone chilling minis 39C or 40 below F. What a change. I walked along the creek today, heard crashes in the bush, probably the old ghost of the forest, a moose. Later on the path the musty smell of a coyote permeated the air. The birds were alive and singing to the beautiful day. Sometimes it just might be a good thing to be a bird and sing out. Bye for now Jay

Beautiful weather today with highs of zero Celsius. I went for a walk along the Ross Street hill the other day and was lucky enough to see two large woodpeckers. These birds are becoming rare. The birds were about 30 cm. with a bright orange red tuffs of feathers atop of their head Mohawk like. Nice to see. The deer regularly walk the same path as I do. This is a little bit of a surprise. Bye for now Jay
